Joanna Lloyd

Glass is Joanna’s second career, after working within the environmental sector in archaeology, town planning and landscape architecture, she returned to study glass at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham. Gaining a first class honours and then an MA. Joanna specialises in cast glass techniques. She was selected twice for the prestigious “Rising Stars” exhibition at the New Ashgate Gallery (a collaboration with the Crafts Council). Joanna was Artist in Residence at UCA Farnham (2016-17).

Her work is inspired by the natural environment, and the layers beneath our feet, Joanna’s previous careers informing her practice. She uses a number of moulding & casting techniques with glass powders and glass billet to create unique pieces of glass relief with detailed textures. The colours and translucency of glass highlight the ephemeral nature of the subjects. Each piece of work is painstakingly cold worked & polished by hand in her Woking studio.

Joanna is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, Find a Maker, Crafts Council Directory, and the Contemporary Glass Society.
