Martha Bogert's ceramics celebrate process and whimsy in equal measure. The designs are fun and functional, sculptural and graphic, toyetic and elegant. Japanese kawaii culture, western cartoons, video-games, and abstract art influence her style. Her work explores the value of play, gender politics, and the history of mark-making.
Porcelain is her material of choice due to its luminosity and plasticity.
Before practicing ceramic art full-time, Martha was an illustrator, digital designer, and teacher. She holds degrees in fine arts, art education, and computer science from School of Visual Arts and New York University in Manhattan. She lives in Molesey with her husband and Persian cats.
